Revitalization Institute: UK Colloquium
14 May 2009
UK Revitalisation Colloquium: 14 May 2009 C-SCAIPE, Kingston University
The terms regeneration and renewal have been part of common parlance for many years. With the adoption of the concept and language of sustainability, the triple imperatives of Environment, Society and Economy form the underpinning to policy for public and private organisations and government alike. The greatest challenge for Higher Education is in developing interdisciplinary and truly collaborative research methodologies and programmes of study in order to meet present demands and future aspirations.
The Revitalization Colloquium, hosted by C-SCAIPE has been instigated by the Revitalization Institute (RI), an international academic network and advocate for the ‘restoration’ economy. Current Institute partners include university and tertiary education departments and organisations across North America, including Harvard Design School, Penn State University School of Forest Resources, Georgia Tech and the home institution Seneca College, Toronto. The Revitalization Institute is looking to develop the network throughout the UK and Europe.
The day will comprise presentations from a range of key note speakers including representatives from The Princes Foundation for the Built Environment, the River Restoration Centre and academic centres and organisations involved in regeneration in the UK. There will be opportunities to exchange experience and identify common themes and opportunities for collaboration. It is hoped that as a consequence of this initial event a UK RI network will be established.
‘RI's academic network of post-secondary institutions and those with related interests, is primarily concerned with developing curriculum and research on the process of natural resources restoration and community revitalization, and ensuring that these institutions are an effective partner and leader in the restoration of their local and regional places.’
William Humber
